Tampa–a Hidden Gem on the Route from Miami to Boston
Our long road trip along the Atlantic coast in a Jeep Wrangler JK 2-door began in Miami, and the next city on our route was Tampa.

In the historic Ybor City district and along the Tampa Riverwalk, there are several city parking lots, multi-level garages, and metered street parking where visitors can leave their cars. This is convenient for road travelers planning to explore the city on foot.

Tampa reveals itself through waterfronts, parks, and bustling streets where the city’s life is especially vivid. A good place to start is a walk along the Tampa Riverwalk. This promenade stretches along the river, offering views of the modern downtown while letting you feel the city’s pace.
Nearby is Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. This spacious green area has open lawns and water views. It’s an easy spot to pause for photos or just enjoy a calm moment.
Off the Beaten Path in Tampa
Tampa hides many corners that rarely make it into standard guides. For example, Hyde Park Village draws visitors with its cozy streets lined with historic homes, designer shops, and small cafes where you can sample local desserts and coffee.
In Seminole Heights, it’s worth visiting craft studios and small shops, and keeping an eye out for street art. Bright graffiti and unusual installations decorate building facades, turning a walk through the neighborhood into a mini cultural tour.
Art lovers will enjoy small galleries such as Cassis Contemporary and the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, which feature works by local artists and photographers. Along the Tampa Riverwalk, sculptures and art pieces create unexpected spots for photos and short stops.
For fans of local food and produce, Tampa Downtown Market and weekend farmers’ markets are worth visiting, offering fresh fruit, cheeses, and handmade goods from local artisans.
